Ever since Mr. Bourdain stepped into Swan Oyster Depot with his camera crew and delivered a raving review, Swan has become a mandatory milestone on the path to becoming a true food enthusiasts. I was very much conscious of this omission on my first trip to the Bay Area, and set forth to make it right on the next visit.
Two years later, Polk street was the first stop for my humble rental car. The casual atmosphere was apparent immediately. I asked if I could break $2 to feed the meter, and was quickly handed 8 quarters and told that the amount would be added to the tab. Cute.
To get a dose of most things on he menu, I opted for the seafood combination salad. While there’s little to argue about the freshness of seafood in the Bay Area, the flavoring of the salad is sadly slightly ordinary.
Swan is a very good seafood destination, if you’re in the area do stop by for some oysters. Yet a foodie mecca it isn’t.
