This is part one of my eventual full review of Má Pêche, which is scheduled to open later this Spring. For the past few months, Ma Peche (I’m going to type without the accents from now on, because it’s plain annoying) has been serving a very limited menu in the lounge of the Chamber Hotel. For Momofuku faithfuls with corporate jobs in Midtown, this has been a long time coming. Not only can you get your fix of David Chang’s masterful creations for lunch, you can also grab a Momofuku Milk Bar cookie or pie after your afternoon coffee.
Occupying the space that was formerly Town, Ma Peche, which stands for Mother Peach, is surely going to be the largest Momofuku establishment. Despite that, if past Momofuku openings are any indication, tables are Ma Peche are sure to be difficult to come by once the restaurant opens. Therefore we decided to pay a visit to the Chamber Hotel lounge a visit early Sunday afternoon.
The menu, or rather a sheet of paper, featured 4 dishes and a cookie. It felt weird eating on lounge sofas and coffee tables, but it was certainly comfortable. The sofas were soft enough to fall asleep in. Food was served very quickly, and with each dish a pair of simple chopsticks. A small bottle of Sriacha hot sauce was placed on the table for you to add to dishes. Now without further delay, what you guys came for, the food pictures.
I have to at this point humbly admit that I have not dined at any other Momofuku restaurants, but my sister has, and she is quite the fan of David Chang. This was a solid, casual meal, but did not stand out like I expected it to. I’ll definitely need to visit again when the big double doors to the dining room opens, and will bring everyone the full report at that time.
For now, if you’ve ever had the craving of eating Vietnamese-French street food in a Library setting in Midtown New York, while devouring a cookie from the famous Momofuku Milk Bar, then this is the place for you.
